Overwhelm, Anxiety, and Intuition

Sometimes you lose your sense of self.

One day you’re feeling centered, grounded, and confident. Life makes sense. You’re on the right path. There is a peace that comes with having the puzzle pieces fit together, and things seem to be as they should.

Then all of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere, things change. You have lost that deep connection to self. Life begins to feel off and you feel unsure of your decisions and where they have led you.

Overwhelm and anxiety set in.

You are now in a place in your life that causes you distress and confusion. This can be lonely and isolating.

I know because I've been there myself.

I recall this season as if it were yesterday. I was a mother of three young children, an interior designer, and the owner of a home decor store.

I burned the wick at both ends trying as hard as I could to balance everything I had put on my plate.

I thought I was “successful” and I felt centered, confident, and grounded in the life I had created.

How did I not see that I was losing the connection to myself as I journeyed towards what I thought was my dream life.

My dream life?

In retrospect, who’s dream was this? How could it be my dream life if I hadn’t been listening to my intuition and now I’m depleted and exhausted?

There I was, barreling through the steps that were bringing me to “the place” where I would arrive and feel fulfilled and proud of myself.

As it turned out, I was not fulfilled. I actually wasn’t centered at all. In fact, I began to feel disconnected from the woman I had been. How did I get there?

There is the overwhelm and anxiety that pops up unexpectedly and powerfully when one finds oneself in that place.

You question your choices and ask yourself the same question I did, “how did I get here?”

It’s a crossroads that the universe has sent to offer you an opportunity to reconnect with yourself.

It’s time to reconnect to the truth of who you are, not to the person you think you’re supposed to be.

Here in lies the fundamental reason we can get off track in life. We let go of our intuition.

Intuition is your superpower.

Your intuition guides you to what’s meant for you, not to the place you believe you should be.

When we were young, we never second guessed this inner voice, this compass.

As we grew up, we began to ignore it as we judged ourselves and second-guessed what we believed.

As a child we believed in our thoughts, feelings, actions, and reality.

We said yes because we wanted to and no to the things that didn’t serve our best interest.

We didn’t think about it on a conscious level, it simply came from our intuition.

Your intuition is your superpower.

It is screaming for you to listen again as you navigate your adulthood, searching, planning, and executing all of the things that will get you where you think you belong.

So there you are. The confidence and centeredness ripped out from under you.

In this place, you have no choice but to turn inward and reconnect with the intuition that changes everything for you.

Your goal is to find peace again and to feel confident in the decisions you’re making.

How do you do this?

  1. The first step is to take inventory of where you’ve come from. What has truly filled you up and what did not.

  2. Get clear on the current reality and what drains your energy.

  3. Get back to your values. Create a list of your core values that are the truest essence of who you are, and lean on them to guide you in future decisions and actions.

  4. Make a conscious decision to make the changes in your life that will move the needle. Little baby steps taken toward the life that is truly meant for you will transform your sense of self, your confidence, and the inner peace you deserve.

From there, you will trust yourself and the intuition you lost connection to as you grew up.

When I faced this season in my life, I had nobody to guide me. I believed I had failed. I had no idea how I would feel like myself again. The thing was, I had lost my sense of self long ago when the world told me who I should be, rather than listening to my gut.

The compass available to you is a gift, and it is waiting for you to utilize it.

So as you finish this piece, make a promise to yourself that you will find yourself again by uncovering who you truly are and what you want in life.
